ACEO "Year's Best ACEO Competition"

This past Fall I entered the Years Best ACEO competition. The competition featured approx 30 different categories. Eleven of my 17 entries were chosen as finalists in the different categories. From those categories I received five Honorable Mention awards and a Second Place award.

This painting was done from a photograph that was taken several years ago. I have thought about doing it for a long time but was afraid I could not do it justice. I suddenly realized that it was silly. If I wasn't happy with the first painting I can always do another and another and another..... and each would be different.

Last Sunday my husband and I spent the day roaming around the area. Although sunshine had been promised for the afternoon, it never cleared. When we got to the top of Roan Mtn. the site was incredible, and also the temperature. We were right in the middle of the clouds and at 5500 feet the temperature was below freezing. Everything was coated in heavy layers of frost. So much so, that it looked like snow. We took a lot of photographs, amazed at how the frost lay on the vegetation. The fog we so thick that distant trees could barely be seen.

The light was just right making the usually green water reflect the blues of the sky.

The weather here in Dallas is going through extreme changes from one day to the next. Sunday was in the 60s, Monday was stormy and dropped into the 30s with snow, and today, back to the 60s. When we arrived last week from Tennessee one of the first things I noticed was the promise of sunflowers close to blooming. This morning I saw that they had been burnt by the cold. So I thought I would post a painting I did a couple of weeks ago and hope that Spring will arrive soon.
